Friction: Application's of Newton's Laws
Friction Box
PIRA Class: 1K20.12*
Purpose
To observe the dependence (or lack of dependence) that the
following factors have on the friction between two surfaces:
1. weight of box
2. surface area of contact
3. static vs. sliding
4. surface material
Description
A. Observe the change in the force required to pull on a
block of wood as masses are placed in the friction box.
B. Observe the change in force required to pull on a block of
wood on its wide and narrow sides.
C. Observe the change in force required to pull on a block of
wood initially and once motion is established.
