I am the Secretary to the Chair for the Department of Physics.  In addition to all of the administrative tasks that this position entails, I am also supervisor over the academic main office for the Department of Physics.  I do quite a bit in graduate recruiting also, and in my spare time, they allow me to be the webmaster for the department.  I have a really great job.  It's never boring or the same two days in a row.  A major part of my job is to help people...faculty, staff and students. My favorite part of my job is helping the students. I am usually the best person in the department to see if a student has an academic problem. (This is not because I know all of the answers, but if I don't, I usually know the person who does)... or can find out exactly who the student needs to see. I try to ensure that the students are not given the run-around and shuffled down the line to be the next office's problem.... which makes us the student's main problem.
