The Center for Integrative and Health Psychology is a clinical and research facility in Grapevine, TX. Mark Rider, PhD is Medical Psychologist at the Center whose research interests include Music/Sonic Therapies, Behavioral Medicine and Psychoneuroimmunology, Biofeedback/Neurofeedback, and Psychopharmacology.
Current research projects include:
-
Determining EEG signatures which correspond to various medical and psychological problems. The coefficient of variation of the power spectrum has a distribution whose tails represent certain disorders of the immune system as well as other neurological and psychological disorders.
-
Treating medical and psychological conditions with treatments such as self-hypnosis through music and sonic entrainment, biofeedback, and neurofeedback. Music entrainment is based on complexity matching on the cognitive level. This powerful clinical technique has been shown to improve immune functioning. Sonic entrainment through the application of the binaural beat phenomenon is regularly utilized in clinical settings, especially for patients whose brian complexity (EEG) is reduced.
-
In conjunction with Unit CN-LS, determining the contribution of EEG complexity analysis to traditional quantitative EEG analysis in the diagnosis of patients with attentional disorders and heavy metal toxicity.
-
In conjunction with Unit Taiwan, determining techniques for the analysis of complexity in music.
