Eclipse Event
VIEW THE NEXT SOLAR ECLIPSE WITH UNT PHYSICS!
April 8, 2024, Total Eclipse
-
The eclipse will begin around 12:20 pm, totality is around 1:40 pm, and the eclipse will end around 3 pm.
-
There will be activities on-campus for those who cannot travel and off-campus - stay tuned!
-
Denton is just outside the path of totality. The Moon will block 99.8% of the Sun in Denton, which will be a spectacular experience, but is IS NOT the same as totality. We encourage you to travel to totality if you are able.
-
We will also partner with UT Dallas and host activities on UTD campus (100% totality) through an NSF-supported project: http://physics.unt.edu/~yl0657/PAARE/eclipse.html

October 14, 2023 Partial Eclipse
We were able to view a partial solar eclipse in the DFW area last year. The Moon blocked 86% of the Sun in Denton. We held two events - an on-campus event in the lawn in front of the Physics Building, and an off-campus event at the Rafes Urban Astronomy Center (RUAC). Both events were well attended! We also live-streamed a telescope view, which was shown at the UNT Football game, now lovingly referred to as the "Eclipse Bowl."
